Institutional Members

Membership in the Alberta Transfer System and use of the Learner Pathways System (LPS) tools and data sharing is open to publicly funded, Indigenous, private not-for-profit, and out-of-province institutions that meet the criteria for membership. 

Alberta Transfer System member institutions are comprised of publicly funded, Indigenous, private not-for-profit, and/or out-of-province post-secondary institutions that agree to and have met the criteria for admission to the Alberta Transfer System.

Members:

• Work collaboratively with other member institutions, organizations, and ACAT Secretariat/Learner Pathways/Alberta Advanced Education to support learner mobility and pathways, including admissions, transfer, and recognition of prior learning.
• Participate in transfer system meetings, information-sharing, problem-solving, relevant committee networks (e.g., articulation committees), and activities as institution Strategic and Operational Contact Persons to support data sharing, learner pathways, and the transfer system.
• Use Alberta Transfer System data-sharing tools, standards, principles, and reporting to share data and information and contribute to transfer system operations, including:
  • Use of Learner Pathways System (LPS)tools, agreeing to learner mobility-related data sharing and maintenance based on LPS data standards (e.g., high school transitions and transfer decisions and offerings data), and meeting Alberta Learner Pathways System Principles.
  • Use of Transfer Credit Awarded (TCA) tools (Alberta publicly funded and other participating member institutions), agreeing to TCA and PLARCA data sharing based on TCA data standards, and meeting TCA Guiding Principles.

Alberta’s institutional members currently include:

• 27 publicly funded institutions throughout Alberta
• 5 First Nations Colleges and 1 Indigenous Learning Provider in Alberta
• 4 private not-for-profit institutions in Alberta
• 10 out-of-province institutions.
  • All five Saskatchewan credit-granting institutions and five institutions from Yukon, Nunavut, Northwest Territories, and British Columbia.

Alberta Transfer System and LPS members share admissions and transfer information through the LPS tools and Transfer Alberta, including information about course or program decisions made with other member and non-member institutions (including those based outside the province that are not members in the Alberta Transfer System).

All data is shared by member institutions as "To" (receiving) institutions. Member institutions can also make transfer decisions proposals as "From" institutions to other member institutions to request transfer decisions with their institution. Targeted high school transitions information is also shared by institutions via the LPS and Transfer Alberta as appropriate to each institution.

Non-member institutions are learning providers that do not currently have Alberta Transfer System membership or that do not meet Alberta Transfer System criteria for membership (e.g., private for-profit and out-of-country post-secondary institutions, business/industry, professional associations, community organizations, etc.).

As identified in the ACAT Non-member Institution Transfer Decisions Policy (2012), non-members can take part in the Alberta Transfer System as FROM institutions (sending institutions), collaborating with member institutions for transfer credit decisions from non-member to member institutions in the Learner Pathways System and Transfer Alberta.
