Alberta Post-Secondary Education Micro-Credential Forum

The Alberta Post-Secondary Education Micro-Credential Forum provides a collaborative forum for Alberta post-secondary institutions and key stakeholders to advance the development, recognition, quality, and transferability of micro-credentials and other alternative credentials across the province. The Forum supports collaboration among institutions, government, industry, and the Alberta Council on Admissions and Transfer (ACAT) to promote learner mobility, strengthen pathways for recognition and transfer, respond to evolving workforce needs, and advance a coordinated provincial approach to micro-credentials. Its activities include:

  • Providing a forum for discussion, collaboration, and information sharing on matters related to micro-credentials and other alternative credentials in Alberta, including best practices, research, emerging trends, and system priorities.
  • Facilitating collaboration and dialogue among Alberta post-secondary institutions, ACAT, Alberta Advanced Education, and other provincial, national, and international stakeholders to support learner pathways and mobility.
  • Supporting the development and implementation of provincial frameworks, guidelines, and principles for micro-credentials and other alternative credentials, while promoting consistency in their design, assessment, recognition, quality assurance, and transferability.
  • Advancing learner mobility by identifying and addressing barriers to the recognition, transferability, and articulation of micro-credentials and other alternative credentials.
  • Providing advice and recommendations to ACAT and other provincial bodies on matters related to micro-credentials, alternative credentials, and emerging issues affecting Alberta's post-secondary system.
  • Supporting collaborative initiatives, including research, working groups, and other projects, to strengthen Alberta's alternative credential ecosystem, enhance learner pathways, and inform provincial recommendations.
